What is MedXPress?

Back to Pilot FAQ Index

The FAA MedXPress system launched in 2007 allows anyone requiring an FAA Medical Certificate or Student Pilot Medical Certificate to electronically complete the FAA Form 8500-8. Information entered into MedXPress will be transmitted to the FAA and will be available for your AME to review at the time of your medical examination. More Info on MedXPress (FAQ's).

The FAA's MedXPress login screen is one click away from your AME's web page. Step 1: Click to Find an AME now...

NOTE: A medical examination by an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) is required to complete the certification process. The FAA MedXPress system is not available for submission of FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist exams at this time (Jan 2008).

For FAA help with MedXPress issues on any of the following:

  • Your FAA MedXPress account, logging in, account lock-out, etc.
  • Guidance with the operation of FAA MedXPress
  • General troubleshooting

Then Contact the FAA's AVS Support Central:

By e-mail at: 9-amc-avs-support-central@faa.gov
(Monitored Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., CST)

Or By phone at: 1-866-285-4942 or 1-405-954-7272
(Monitored 24/7)

AVS Support Central cannot answer questions related to medical entries on the Form 8500-8. For specific help regarding information on the form, consult the AME Guide by clicking on the Help link next to the associated field.

Note: You must answer all three FAA security questions correctly in order for AVS Support Central to reset your password.

A person who meets FAA airmen medical standards, based on a medical examination and an evaluation of medical history, is entitled to a medical certificate without restriction or limitation other than the prescribed limitation as to its duration. Individuals required to hold a medical certificate must have it in their personal possession at all times when exercising the privileges for which they are licensed.

There are different classes of medical certificates depending on whether you you are performing duties as acommercial, airline, private or student pilot. Tell me more about the different classes.

Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs) are physicians who are authorized to issue medical certificates if the applicant must meet the medical standards. Find an AME for me.
